We scoured the web to bring you the latest and most informative reviews about Place Louis Riel Hotel.  Here is what we found:

Easily the Greatest Hotel Stay in a Busy Soldiers Life

From the beginning the inside of the building is simply fantastic, not loud and eye popping but not drab either. Simply a perfect touch here and there.
Secondly, the Staff; marvelous. From the Urban Restaurant in the lobby floor, to the hotel maids, and reception staff were polite, Curtis, and helpful as possible. If you meet Jenna at Reception she’s an absolute doll; fantastic and very accommodating.
I’ve been to many hotels, inns, motels, and while on duty slept in a ditch under machine gun fire. I’ve been from the best to the worst sleeping conditions and that has given me a great ability to appreciate the small things. Place Louis Riel beats the President suite at the Hilton by miles. Service, decor, amenities in and around the hotel; simply perfect. And obviously a rocky craig in Afghanistan :)
On pricing; me and my lady friend had a complete 24 hour stay, Free dinner, breakfast, movie, and a collection of chocolates and sparkling wine on the house! All for $249 CDN. A deal if there ever was.
Oh, and the room was gigantic, King Sized bed, 22nd Floor, and clean as a whistle. Bravo!

Great place for a small party

We just attended a birthday party in the adjoining Aurora Room and Northern Crown room. This is a great room for a party of 50 people. Rooms had all the amenities we needed (fridge, stove, microwave, bar fridge) and had a great view too. We were able to bring in our own food and liquor. We stayed at the hotel in a renovated room. We were impressed with the size of the room and the quality of the renovations. Appreciated the amenties included in the room. Staff were friendly and appeared to be like a family. This is located in a very central downtown location. Will definitely stay here again when we return to Winnipeg

High expectations not entirely fulfilled

I stayed at the Place Louis Riel Suite Hotel in rm. 2001 ($117) from November 17-18, 2008 on business.
I had read so many glowing reviews of this review that I had extremely high expectations of the hotel. When I arrived, the lobby renovations were nearing completion and I was impressed – tasteful and modern dark wood paneling, granite countertops and scattered funky easy chairs.
I was assigned to rm. 2001 and I appreciated that the hotel was able to give me a room so early in the morning (10h00). Note to guests: As a security measure, you have to insert your room key in a slot in the elevator before selecting a floor.
My room was huge – sitting room, working area, galley kitchen, dining area, bathroom and bedroom. This place was bigger than my first apartment! The decor was so-so – an attractive plum easy chair with sleek design (great), a Tex Mex-inspired sofa (blah), gorgeous Aboriginal art of mallard ducks (great), a lamp and an overhead light that didn’t work (blah), attractive new sliding blinds (great) and tube televisions in the living and sleeping areas (what I have at home). I guess that this wasn’t one of the newly renovated rooms but it was clean, in good repair, comfortable and quiet.
I will admit that bedspreads are a deal-breaker for me. In my opinion, if there is one investment that a hotel can make to update its rooms, it’s to fit all rooms with duvets with simple white covers. So the mottled grey, pink and purple bedspreads at Place Louis Riel were particularly underwhelming.
My other very minor quibble is that Place Louis Riel’s management seems to have bought into the myth of “conditioning shampoo.” Good thing I brought my own conditioner. Note to hotel managers: On behalf of the people of this world with long hair, curly hair or otherwise unmanageable hair, please please make the effort to stock your rooms with separate shampoo and conditioner bottles.
Also, for pet owners, this hotel accepts pets without size restrictions. (I own 2 Labrador Retrievers and have found that many “pet-friendly” hotels will only accept dogs up to 25lbs or 50 lbs, which means my girls – 57lbs and 68 lbs – can’t stay there.)
So overall, I can’t complain. The hotel was fine and I rate it as “average” simply because my expectations were elevated based on reviews. When complete, the renovation of this hotel will be stunning and its spacious rooms represent exceptional value for short and long-term stays.
